Final Proposal

My final project revolves around the meal in the food life cycle presented to us at the beginning of the semester. This project also contains the thoughts of my mental health in regards to my OCD. OCD is obsessive compulsive disorder, I was diagnosed at 6 and have had it for fourteen years. My life is one giant game of trying to reach a perfection that I will never attain due to this, not only do I have OCD I also have a secondary form of OCD known as germaphobia which growing up and somewhat to this day has greatly impacted my day to day life to the point where I can't even shake a persons hand when I meet them.
I will be sculpting with ice cream in class that will be eaten by the viewers while I preform an original piece of spoken word or another form of spoken word. I will begin by washing my hands four times as due to my ocd I do things in fours. Then I will move to a silver empty bowl filled with nothing but an ice cream scooper. I will remove two flavors of ice cream from the freezer and begin to sculpt them within the bowl in a manner that is methodical and almost surgical. Whereupon I will begin to recite my piece with emotion which will translate towards my feelings of having ocd and being a germaphobe. As the ice cream begins to melt I will continue trying to make a perfect sculpture but never able to reach perfection while this is happening the viewers will be granted permission to eat the sculpture as it is a part of the destruction of the piece and adds to the difficulty of trying to reach perfection. While this is happening I will be acting out what my internal mind is saying which will cause my creation of the sculpture to become much more frustrated and angered as I know I will never achieve perfection yet I will always try. The piece will end with a bowl of melted ice cream which Im covered in as I have destroyed it in my goals to reach perfection, where the viewers are invited to actually use my clothing as a canvas to design what they believe my internalized thoughts are using the melted ice cream as a form of paint.
The timeline is to start working on prototype performances on a small scale, then eventually work up to a large practice performance before finalizing everything for the last class. My main challenges would be the space Im presenting it on, whether I want to be sitting or standing, another challenge is doing everything within the time allotted as I don't know how long it will take for the ice cream to actually melt or how long my spoken word portion is. This project is something that I look forward to performing as it has a deep connection to not only my past but what has essentially shaped mw to be who I am today.
